Cathy Reschke,

We just spoke on the phone about accommodations for student Raeth Morgan in my online History of the Vietnam War, HST195 (CRN 21148).

Series transcripts

Students already have access to the PBS website which have the full transcripts of the 11 part DVD series that students must watch. (Most students view the series on YouTube, where captioning is probably not included... I assume it would be on the DVD set that students can check out from the library. Students know they can check out the set from the library, as stated on my syllabus. However, I didn't mention anything about closed captioning.)

So, at least that is at least a "partial" good start to the term.

Here is a list of what does not have captioning or transcripts.

#1
Students were also asked to view/listen to a screen capture, basically audio, orientation for the course. Here is a direct link to that 15 minute long file.

#2
To check students' technical abilities, I included a 2 minute long "test" video.

Although a transcript for the full episodes exist, this is only a "preview", which seems to be compiled from several "voices". See:

#3
Here is a 2 minute clip, also from this week. No transcript.

#4
For next week, here is a 15 minute clip students will watch. At this point in the term, it is probably the most urgent priority.
No transcript that I know of for this old government reel.

#5
The next urgent priority after #4 is this. Students watch an hour long video during weeks 3&4 called Accuracy in Media - Vietnam the Real Story. Youtube DOES have ONLY the first 10 minutes and their "on the fly" CC transcript does an adequate job for that 10 minutes.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adSiXHcsDQU&list=PLED259EA0DA0F2288

However, in week 3, students watch 30 minutes.
https://media.lanecc.edu/users/escobarj/195/forum1/Part_1.mov

And the final 30 minutes in week 4
https://media.lanecc.edu/users/escobarj/195/forum2/Part_2.mov

That should get us to the midterm exam and through the first 5 weeks of the term. More to come.

Attached is a PDF of the course syllabus.

Let me know if there is anything else I need to do.
